I had never heard of the Altesse grape before this trip, and finding it high up in the Alps felt like uncovering a secret. Rich and buttery, with a texture that makes you understand why it can age gracefully for years. The Rousette de Savoie is one of the typical wines one could bring from there, yet it’s not typical at all - not too mineral, not too ‘green apple’, and not too light-headed.
